An upright, multi-branching perennial. Bell-shaped, pinkish-white flowers have dark pink lines inside the corolla and form in clusters at the tips of branches in summer. Pairs of long, slender seed pods about two to 6 inches long from blooms, ripening from green to a dull red. The pods, once dry, release seeds on cottony hairs that are borne on the wind. Stems are green in shade; turn reddish in sunlight. Leaves are smooth with a grass green upper and paler underside.
