Pink buds open to deliciously fragrant white flowers in May—masquerading as a Daphne in terms of scent (truly a rival), it is, though, less finicky in the garden. Unlike Daphne, it's deciduous, so you get rich, red-orange-purple leaves in fall before they disappear. And the flower sepals, blushed pink, have ornamental value, too, on this underused 5' x 5' shrub. Let it assume its natural, open habit or prune it regularly. Frankly, it can look rather awkward if pruned only on occasion.Minimum temperature: -30° F
