Mounded, upright form with smooth orange-brown bark on main trunk & older branches. Younger stems are distinctly "hairy" with sparse but long white fuzz. Pointed, elongated leaves are lightly fuzzy when young, then becoming smooth and gray-green. Clusters of urn-shaped flowers in spring give way to plump, disc-shaped berries that are green when new then turn to a dark cherry red when mature.
