It's very low-maintenance and very easy-going, tolerating shade, tolerating clay, and tolerating nearly any amount of water or lack thereof. Handsome and an easy keeper. If only they were all that way ;).
The common name is in reference to the tart and bitter berries which are technically edible but so astringent as to cause choking in those who deign to try them.
