Tiny, dimpled, dark green leaves surround airy, bright blue fragrant panicles that open from purple buds in April and May. Found at Vandenberg Air Force Base, Santa Barbara Co., in 1982. It's drought-tolerant after the first year, preferring dry summers. Like most Ceanothus, it loves the coast. That doesn't mean we can't enjoy it, along with the bees, inland.
