A seldom-seen offering. This Japanese native is truly a gem. The sterile fronds emerge in burnished hues of red and orange, developing into horizontal rosettes of vibrant green. Spikey fertile fronds drift 12” above the rosette. True to its woodland roots, Blechnum nipponicum prefers consistently moist, well-drained soil and is often seen growing along roads and trails. Evergreen. Does well in open woodland with some afternoon shade.
