The evergreen, spiny-margined, strappy leaves form huge rosettes that launch long, pale, soaring stems up to five feet. The ends are stiffly panicled, studded with small, spiny, greenish-white globose umbels. From Argentina and Chile, it is drought-tolerant for short periods. Watering during an Oregon summer is optional.
