The Crown Imperial has a cluster of 3-inch yellow pendent bells at the tops of tall, stately stems. This is a spectacular early spring display just when you wouldn't expect to see such a tropicalesque look in our climate. It is not, however, a tropical plant. The Crown Imperial Lily made its European debut in 1576, brought from mountain meadows in Turkey and Kashmir.
