In this mixture, solitary, nodding, bell-shaped flowers vary widely from reddish-purple, faintly checkered green to pure white. It's best in the woodland garden at the edge of the shade with cool soil during our hot summers. The name, Fritillaria, comes from the Latin, fritillus, meaning "dice-box," presumably referring to the markings on ones such as F. meleagris.
It's imperative that Fritillaria bulbs are kept evenly moist and not allowed to desiccate.
