July through September, dense, conical panicles on red stems transform from white to dusky pink as they mature. The flowers are held upright on this rounded shrub, and dry well, holding their shape and color in a vase. This panicled hydrangea, unlike the oakleaf hydrangea, has ovate, serrated, dark green leaves turning yellow to purple in autumn. After leaf fall, flowers will persist into winter, losing color but remaining interesting to those who like the evidence of seasons. 5–10' T & W
