A "Dwarf Tree Mallow," Lavatera is an uncommonly tough woody perennial with deep pink to pinkish-red hibiscus-like blossoms on deepest burgundy stems. Felted, somewhat crinkled, gray-green tri-lobed leaves run the length of the stems — an exquisite color combination! Blooms open early summer and continue a floriferous display into fall. Nice in the company of other drought-tolerant plants like Rock Roses and Sun Roses (flowers, flowers, flowers!). And nice in a large pot — reliable. Cut it back in spring to 8 – 12" and let it rejuvenate. Semi-evergreen in USDA Zone 7, (0ºF); 3-4' T & W.
