In June–July, large single white flowers bloom against leaves that when new are tinged with purple-bronze. The noticeable deep purple calyces that clasp the petals distinguish this particular Philadelphus and make it more elegant than some. I'm sure the scent of this and other Philadelphus have inspired more than a little brotherly love (in reference to the genus name). 8'–9' T x 6' W
