'Aurea' is a fast-growing, irregularly conical, evergreen conifer with short, twisted, green-in-summer needles becoming yellow-gold in winter. It looks much like the winter sun has broken out to bath the tree in sunshine. The bark is a flaking orange-red-brown and seed cones are gray to light brown. This is no subdued background tree. Typically it grows 30 – 60' tall in cultivation, but may reach 100' in the wild. Native to northern Europe and northern Asia.
