It makes a low dome of pale green, textured, rounded foliage in opposite leaf arrangement (leaves paired directly opposite each other on the stem). The felted foliage is deer resistant! In early summer it sends up whorls of small pinkish purple flowers. The really fun part of the flowers is the cool texture they leave behind with the green, bowl-like, calyces.

Requires full sun and dry, sharply-draining soils. Ideal for xeric or rock-gardening. Too rich of soils will lead to awkward growth and a short-lived plant.

Mature size: 24 in T x 24-30 in W

Minimum temperature: 15° F

Formerly Ballota hirsutus.
