Domes of congested, silvery-green rosettes have particularly narrow leaves with white, lime-secreting pores on the margins — hence the silvery look. Long red stems carry panicles of yellowish-white flowers in late summer. It's about the foliage, though, not so much the flower. A very attractive plant, it's native to the Dolomites of the Eastern Alps and is a much underused alpine or rock garden specimen.Minimum temperature: -5° F
