This is the latest classification for our native Western Maidenhair fern.
Black stems fork in half with 3 – 5 finger-like divisions, each with their own soft, somewhat frilly apple-green leaflets fanning out in a horseshoe. This classic enchanting PNW fern is found perched in the mist of waterfalls, dripping canyon walls, or along winding streams. A deciduous, nicely spreading fern that is as lovely as they come. Prefers regular moisture but once established can tolerate short spells of dry.
Mature size: 1-2 feet tall & wide, gradually spreading
Minimum temperature: -30° F
