With dark purple, wide open "bells" and silvery highlights, this is a non-vining, woody-stemmed perennial that reaches up to 6 ft tall. Weave its decumbent form into an obliging neighboring shrub to help support it, and people will wonder which plant is producing those exquisite blooms. Flowering late May to mid-August, the blooms, 3–4 inches across when fully open, are composed of four to six slightly twisted tepals. The seed heads are just as attractive: silvery puffs. Prune back hard to 6-8 inches tall in early spring.
