A tall perennial blooming in the later half of the growing season- July to September. The native range encompasses a huge section of the North American prairie, from Canada down to Texas which gives you a sense of how many different conditions it can tolerate. Performs well in the many disagreeable garden beds- be they too soggy, dry sand, or heavy clay. So it's a wanderer...caution to those who do not support that kind of behavior from their perennials.
It can sprawl a bit in more moist conditions but stays upright in our Oregon dry summer soils. Amazing backdrop to other late bloomers such as Asters and Salvia.
