An uncommon Asian shrub with very long pinnate leaves and glowing pale blue seedpods. The interior of the fruit is delicately sweet and custard-like with embedded black seeds. From late spring to early summer, small, pale, creamy-yellow flowers bloom on upright deciduous multistem plants. Native to woodlands, thickets, mountain slopes, and ravines in western China, Bhutan, NE India, Myanmar, Nepal, and Sikkim.
Mature size: 10–20 feet tall and wide.
Minimum temperature: -20° F
