Its foliage emerges maroon, turning maroon-tinged green as it matures. 2-5 inch, lace-cap flowers bloom in May, with maroon, bead-like fertile florets ringed with blushed, white sterile florets. Fall brings the richest red-purple color to its tri-lobed leaves. If you'd like a lace-cap hydrangea but haven't the shade, consider this!
