From the Magellanic Plains of Southern Argentina comes this evergreen, glossy, tiny-leafed, mounding shrub, tolerant of harsh conditions including wind. It can handle a salty seaside too. Small white sputniks stud the surface in early spring to midsummer, making it look a bit Christmasy. While it is essentially xeric, it would benefit from a little water in long, hot, dry spells. Well-behaved as a ground cover and an effective weed-suppressor. Collected by Dan Hinkley in the southern Chilean Andes. Rare.
