This northern (septentrionalis) California resident blooms September through October. Vermillion-orange trumpets and silver-green leaves dazzle everyone, especially hummingbirds. Whew! It takes my breath away! This is a prime example, in the parlance of the art academy, of what is called "the interaction of color!" (Homage here to Joseph Albers) It's joyful in the worst of conditions from clay to heat and drought. We should take a lesson.
