A good fern for dry shade, 'Sarah L.' is adapted to dry California summers where the species is native. Finely dissected fronds make for an energetic and frilly appearance, emerging in autumn to go dormant in early summer. With the first autumn coolness, the fiddleheads emerge and unfurl, thriving all winter into spring when many other ferns are not at their best: round out the year in your fern garden.
