A succulent bulb, native to South Africa, with unusual narrow dark green leaves that emerge in a corkscrew formation in late winter. A mature plant may develop a bloom stalk with up to 20 chartreuse blooms and a strong fragrance of vanilla.
Understanding the growth cycle is important as the bulbs prefer intermittent water during the summer dormant period. Watering may be resumed in the fall. Keep the soil evenly moist by watering once a week. Bright sunshine will encourage the leaves to form a tighter spiral. Be sure to pot the bulb using a sharply draining soil mix.
