A springtime bloomer, 'Winterglut' (pronounced "vintergloot" in German meaning winter glow) has saturated magenta blooms on 16-inch, fleshy red stalks. When not dazzling you with its color, the leaves contribute a lushness to the garden, large at 10" long and 8" wide, glossy, and burnished red in winter - a winter glow! The namesake of the genus, Bergenia, is in tribute to German physician and botanist Karl August von Bergen (1704-1759), a key to its pronunciation with a hard "g" to answer your burning question. 1.5' T & W, slowly increasing.
