One of the most impressive Bergenia with HUGE rounded, supple leaves with a furry surface ("ciliata") surround short red stalks with clusters of soft pink flowers, each containing a spritz of beautifully protruding white-anthered red stamens — a distinctive feature of this flower. Mid-spring bloom.
Serving suggestion: contrast with Hakonechloa grass or Himalayan maidenhair (Adiantum venustum). Needs intermittent water if grown in shade and at least regular water if grown in sun.
