Thick, oval, glossy evergreen leaves undergird flowers that emerge rose-pink atop stout red stems in early spring. "Sakura" translates to "cherry blossom". Blooms age to a softer cherry-blossom-pink hue. Leaves become a dramatic glossy purple-black in winter. This is a great plant to contrast with something fine and ferny, to cover a bank, or to accompany other plants in a container. Full sun may result in sun scalded leaves; part sun or shade yields much prettier results. Do not underestimate the too-oft-inappropriately-used Bergenia! Let's give it a new lease on life.
