Narrow reed-like perennial with evergreen cylindrical stems.  A black band forms along each joint in the stem.   It is primarily found in riparian areas along with moist woodland glades. It is popular on the margin of ponds and bioswales.  Best used in a container;  if planted in the ground it can be an aggressive spreader.
