Large, lustrous, and leathery dark green leaves on rusty red stems are very handsome together on this self-clinging vine. White, frothy, "lace cap" flowers emerge from large swollen buds in mid-summer. This plant thrives in the cool shade of a forest canopy, vining upward seeking light, or with more sun in cooler climes, you may get more flowers out of it. It will be happy to clothe any stout tree in your garden. Native to the cloud forests from Mexico to Peru, it can be found at elevations of 3500 to 9600 feet.
