Nearly black, shiny, narrow, strappy leaves are an exotic foil for other colors: bright yellow-green (Carex Bowles Golden), deep red (Rhod. Everred), brilliant blue (Dianella tasmanica 'Yellow Stripe'), cream/light green (Iris pallida 'Aurea Variegata'), other blacks (Iris chrisographes).... Lilac flowers on spikes appear early to late summer and the resulting fleshy black fruits remain all winter. 6–12" tall and spreads by underground stolons to make a "field" of beautiful basic black, softly curving, evergreen tufts.
Sorry, grasses and sedges cannot be shipped to California.
