Philadelphus 'Belle Etoile', Mock Orange

Coming in near the end of the mock orange blooming period, this richly scented selection is somewhat lower growing and the flowers have a slight rose-purple center, subtle, but contributes however subliminally to its elegance.

We spent many years collecting all the Philadelphus species and cultivars we could to determine for ourselves which were the most fragrant. Our top three (for scent) are Philadelphus 'Avalanche', Philadelphus madrensis, and Philadelphus 'Belle Etoile'. 'Avalanche' and 'Belle Etoile' are similar in terms of habit, foliage, and desirable growth conditions but 'Belle Etoile' pulls ahead because of the delicate purple blush on its bloom. We highly recommend trying both (or all three) and coming to your own conclusions.
