Mesmerizing as the breeze floats through the leaves bringing them to life, the flat petioles and leaves twist in the wind causing the familiar and delightful shimmer—a visual equivalent of the sparkling brook, or if a stiff wind, then the sound of an inland ocean. These trees come from a very old local valley population believed to have been brought to this unlikely spot by the ancient Missoula Flood. They've been rescued from an old homestead on our own Priem Rd. They are gray-white-barked, delightfully suckering (plant where that attribute will make you happy), and grow to 30 ft tall—just perfect for a bosque.
