From high European meadows, this Primula relative is every bit as charming with evergreen round basal leaves in the cutest clump out of which spring red-stemmed, nodding, violet, tasseled flowers. So dear. (Soldanella in Italian = little coins.) Springing from spots that hold moisture, it often arises from snow-retaining clefts in alpine regions, hence "snowbell."
