In March, Viburnum carlesii prepares to fragrance the garden with very pretty deep pink buds that open to pink-washed white snowballs becoming pure white when mature in April. Sumptuous fragrance! Blue-black berries follow. The leaves are broad, textural, and serrated, tinged chocolate-maroon when young, dark green in summer, purple-red in autumn.

Tolerant of many soil types (It does put up with Black Walnut) but would prefer decent air circulation. Don't crowd it too much. Pruning, if you are so inclined, should happen immediately after flowering.

Deciduous shrub; mature size: 4-6 feet T x W

Minimum temperature: -30° F
