Content to grow in moist shade, but tolerant of some summer drought, the arching, reddish stems of creamy white flowers work for both naturalistic or formal settings. Use for its atmospheric effect or as a lovely, lightly leafy "filler" or matrix. Blooming from mid-spring through early summer, it's an important butterfly attractant, a host plant for the Dusky Azure butterfly.

North American native with a wide distribution from the West Coast, Alaska down to California, and the Southeast US states. Found mostly in riparian areas.
