Perfect for providing a swath of color during the late fall season and quite tolerant of frost, choose this brilliant purple Aster to provide panache in the meadow garden. A Japanese selection with a robust stoloniferous growth habit that can quickly fill in a large space. Beloved by pollinators and Butterflies.
At our location in the east foothills of the Oregon Coastal range, this is the last Aster to start and finish its blooming season. In 2024, we are halfway through November with a few light frosts and it's still blooming. We have our clump of this perennial in the south part of our garden in one of the hottest sites with heavy clay and gravel and we give it little/ no summer water. It is slowly making its way through the bed between more competitive shrubs. The 4-5-year-old perennial is now 6 in - 1 ft W and stretches around 6 ft. For a fuller plant, it would benefit from some summer water.
Mature size: 2 ft tall x 10 ft wide in 10 years.
