Emerging in late spring, initial growth is a rich orange-bronze later becoming dark green. The fronds are especially wide with interesting, enlivening crinkled pinnae or leaflets. Semi-evergreen, its benefitted in colder climates by leaving the fronds as a mulch in winter. This is a rhizomatous spreader with 3–4-foot fronds! It will assume mighty proportions if its soil is a rich, moist humus.
