Chilopsis linearis ‘Lucretia Hamilton’ is a large shrub (or small tree) with a single trunk and narrow leaves which give a willow effect. Its fragrant trumpet blooms all through the summer and heat tolerance make it a desirable garden addition. The species' native habitat ranges from the southwestern United States and into north-central Mexico. The cultivar "Lucretia Hamilton" is notable for more cold hardiness and saturated dark magenta-burgundy blooms compared to the usual pale pink.
Grows more rapidly if planted in the fall or early spring. They bloom on new wood so no need to be shy about pruning for your desired shape.
This small tree or large shrub is a new one to us, as of 2024, this plant has celebrated its fourth birthday in our dry garden.
