E. alpinum cultivar 'Blue Star' has a saturated metallic blue coloration in the thistle-like flowers with an eye-catching spiny ruff. The flowers are held aloft on stiff stems reaching heights of 2-3 ft. Eryngiums are incredibly hardy, and happily grow in hot and dry conditions. Excellent choice for coastal areas. Clumping perennial.
