James Stirling' is a dense evergreen shrub with bright ochre-colored, scale-like leaves appressed to the stems in whipcord fashion that grows more open with age, like 10 or more years. The impression is that of cypress or juniper foliage in a very stout, wide vase shape. White, petaled flowers in late spring cover the top like snowflakes, brightening it noticeably — a different flower from the spike of most Hebes! This is an unusual color for the garden and looks really great with Euphorbia 'Ascot Rainbow', Juniperus communis 'Compressa', and Euphorbia rigida. Amaze friends and neighbors with a new and unexpected color palette that is provocative and really works. One of the hardiest and one of our favorites!
