Bred in Kyoto Japan by Ryoji Irie, and named for his wife, this mopheap hydrangea won the RHS Chelsea Flower Show Plant of the Year in 2014. Its voluminous flower clusters begin flowering in June and possess unique double blooms with variegated petals. The creamy center of the petals are edged with margins of deep rose that are unaffected by soil type. The flower color changes with time and climate. Flowers bloom on new and old wood. This plant is further enhanced by rich burgundy new growth that changes to deep green, turning red in fall. Plant this beauty in humus enriched soil and provide some summer water. Protect from hot afternoon sun in warmer climates. Rounded habit.
