Light pink to orange-pink flowers are set amongst dark green palmately compound leaves. The blooms, shown off by the shrub's open form, are just between a cup-shape and a star-shape and have a translucent, waxy appearance. Asian garden or Western garden, this shrub is equally at home and has a southeastern U.S. counterpart. Despite the common name, it is NOT edible. Star Anise is a different species of the same genus. Deer-resistant and somewhat drought-tolerant once established; evergreen, 8' T x 6' W.
