Not-your-mother's Pachysandra! No offence to mothers and grandmothers everywhere who seem to be the ones who most often pass down their love of gardening and whose greatly missed presence is sweetly summoned by seasonal ephemeral scents that keep us engaged in the garden.

A low evergreen perennial with fragrant, spidery, white flowers in mid-spring. This groundcover takes some time (3-5 years) to develop into its elegant carpet, but it is well worth the wait. The foliage is elongated, glossy, and gently serrated, emerging bright green in spring before turning deep emerald as it matures. Not very picky about soil type but prefers acid soils, tolerates clay, and deep shade. Grows best in dappled shade in a site where a Rhododendron would grow. A Dan Hinkley introduction.

Mature size: 4-6 in T x gently spreading

Minimum temperature: -10° F
