Lush, linear leaves feed 4 foot tall spires of lightly fragrant snow-white trumpets blooming in early summer. Its namesake appears to be Count Giovanni Paradisi who lived in Modena, northern Italy just after the Renaissance. Why, is another question. Meadows, open woodlands, and marshes of Spain and Portugal are its native habitat, but you needn't replicate those conditions exactly. It's easy, forgiving, and should be seen more frequently in gardens. And now you know about it!
