Of Japanese origin, this pussy willow was named for the volcano, Mt. Asama. It's so rewarding for how easy it is to grow. Buds emerge deep burgundy with a silver penumbra, and then the flowers become soft pinkish-red and 2–3 inches in length! Appreciated by florists for the catkin and the red stem; make your own breathtaking arrangement with tall stems to fill a crystal, silver, or black vase! It's a large shrub, but one that's very amenable to pruning so can remain smaller if you'd like.
