'Byrd Hill' is a good choice for gardeners looking for the fast-growing species, A. manzanita, but want a shrub that's not quite as giant, and one that grows with an upright vase-shaped form rather than the usual dome. Large, green oval leaves, the signature mahogany bark, and white blooms in late winter.

Minimum temperature: 10º F
Not recommended for hot and humid climates.
