From Southeast Australia, evergreen victoriae has grey-green leaves on a rounded shrub with provocative spritzes of bright, brick-orange-red flowers in winter. The flowers can bloom sporadically year round much to the excitement of hummingbirds. This is the hardiest member of the grevilleas. Consider a Cupressus, Quercus, Arctostaphylos, Cistus, Helianthemum, and grasses to accompany—all drought-tolerant once established. Be sure to keep phosphorus-based fertilizer away.
