Ground Covers
A successful and engaging garden is a layered proposition. Ground covers form that carpet layer, creating softness, richness, texture, and a sense of detail often necessary for a garden to look and feel complete. Ground covers, too, can be wonderfully floriferous, fragrant, fruiting, and evergreen or deciduous. And not least, they can be weed-suppressing! Our criteria for plants included in this collection is that they be less than 24 or so inches tall and spreading to more than about two feet. Otherwise low plants are considered mats or low shrubs. Check "shrubs" and "perennials" for ground covers that perform double duty if you don't find the plant you want here.
