Sometimes nature's design just can't be improved upon. The Pointleaf is a must-have for the Manzanita collector. Erect, vase-like growth habit with lustrous red-brown bark, elliptic to lance-elliptic leaves that are hairy grey-green but non-resinous when young become leathery and shiny over time, maturing to a bright but deep green. Natively found across transition zones from rocky slopes, conifer forests, to open chaparral lowlands. Adaptable as a standalone statement, unique in its height and shape for filling in above other shrubs (more manzanitas of course), but can even be allowed to root in from low branches to form a screening thicket. North slopes to full sun.
