A deciduous tree, shrub, or hedge with attractive peeling bark, 'Flamingo' has been selected for the brilliant salmon-pink color of the newly emerging spring foliage which then pales to creamy yellow and matures to green. Please note the bright pink spring foliage depends on light and heat levels and may not occur in areas with warmer spring temperatures or if forced in a house/ greenhouse. Fragrant white flowers are clustered in drooping panicles in midsummer followed by winged fruit. All parts of the tree are aromatic, and the flowers entice pollinators.
It's not picky about soil types, but it does require drainage. Best grown in full sun to part shade.
Toona sinensis is adaptable to many habits with a little styling. It can easily be grown as a tree, shrub, or extended to a hedge. Best time to prune is late winter to early spring.
